THE HOME DEPOT

How To Undo

The brief.

We needed to help The Home Depot empower new DIYers to undo their mistakes and complete their projects with engaging video content.

The insight.

You can find a how-to video for pretty much anything. But if you've goofed something up, it's pretty much impossible to learn how to undo your mistake. That's where we saw an opportunity.

Our approach.

When we kicked off season one, we wanted to show DIY newbies that it was okay to mess up. So we did a data deep-dive to find the most common DIY mistakes. Then, our Influencer Marketing team selected Mike Montgomery from Modern Builds as our partner for the series. We worked alongside him to write out the first ten-episode season, turning lackluster how-to’s into something people would actually tune in for.

The first season was a hit, but we didn't rest on our laurels. We dug back in with Mike and The Home Depot to go even bigger. With topics informed by analytics from season one as well as top search results for DIY help on Google, we planned and wrote twelve new episodes with more comedy, thoughtful quips, character work, easy-to-follow instruction for more complex DIY fixes, and better sets. Then, we shot all twelve episodes and two paid promotional trailers (over one hour of total run time!) in just eleven days at Trade School Studios.
